Benefits of Spiralite ®
Spiralite ® ducting has all the advantages of the Kingspan KoolDuct system and more.
Damage
All ductwork on site is at risk of physical damage. Spiralite ducting is strong due to it's shape. It is resistant to serious damage and minor damage is easy to repair. A short explanation to site operatives of careful handling and storage should eliminate any problems associated with damage. It is easy to cut out a seriously damaged section and slot in a new replacement.
Installed Cost
Labour savings and reduced costs for supporting Spiralite ducting make it competitive with galvanised steel ductwork and insulation. We are in the process of obtaining more precise data which will be published as it becomes available to highlight this.
Air Leakage
The construction of Spiralite ducting and the jointing system does not allow any leakage of air. Our recent BSRIA tests confirm that cap ends were the only areas of minor leakage due to BSRIAs own measurement and test instruments being inserted into the ducting. Spiralite ducting therefore offers running cost savings over conventional ductwork systems, as all the air heated, cooled or extracted reaches it destination. This contributes positively to reducing the carbon footprint of any building.
Jointing System
Spiralite ducting is joined using conventional off the shelf circular ductwork jointing couplers. These joints are held together using spiked connectors around the outside circumference and are then sealed with reinforced foil tape (and silicon if the internal coupler does not have rubber seals).
The joints are airtight. This eliminates the possibility of any thermal transfer through a metal (galvanised or aluminium) joint. Because of this, there is no possibility of condensation.
Support Systems
There is no need to utilise heavy traditional support systems for Spiralite ducting. Simple looped, nylon protected, wire supports are all that is required to install our light wieght system.
Tools
Spiralite® ducting can be fitted using a minimal tool kit as no heavy cutting equipment or lifting is required for installing the system. No metal needs cutting - just insulation. This saves time for example, when cutting in branches and access doors.
Strength
As our BSRIA Report (PDF 195kb) shows, Spiralite® ducting is capable of withstanding high pressure due to it's shape, method of manufacture and jointing system. These strengths makes the system very robust when installed.
Whole Life Costing
Although Spiralite ducting does not yet have any long term research into its lifespan, it follows that, as the system is manufactured from the same KoolDuct insulation board and the air leakage tests surpass any other ductwork in the same price range, the same conclusions can be made about it's contribution to long term capital and energy savings. (Link to relevant Kingspan site).
Air Quality
Spiralite ducting will not let any air out of or into the system. Therefore, an ingress of fibres or dust through the ducting does not occur. This improves the air quality of any system using Spiralite® compared to other ductwork systems.
Cleaning
Spiralite ducting can be cleaned using the same dry methods used for KoolDuct® and has been succesfully tested by a national duct cleaning company.
Versatility
Spiralite ® ducting can be installed in a wide range of conditions, buildings, locations, humidities and applications. The ability to apply additional laminates both internally and externally to the ductwork during manufacture, saves site time and increases versatility. Please refer to our Applications section for more information. When used externally the ductwork, insulation and weatherproofing form a single product - one installation, one job.
Aesthetics
Our suppliers and clients feel that Spiralite® is preferrable to conventional insulated ducting. Not just in terms of it's financial and environmental savings, but also asphetically.
