The Document L changes take into account the impact of ductwork air leakage on carbon emissions in a much more meaningful way than previously. The introduction of Class C and D ductwork air leakage limits into the SBEM algorithm, which now allows this level of air leakage to be taken into account at design stage, gives specifiers an edge as they look to make the target 25% carbon saving over 2006 standards. Any ductwork system that meets these standards will place them at a distinct advantage in achieving such savings.

Spiralite was a winner in the Innovation Zone competition for new innovative products, tools or materials that would benefit the retrofit sector and is designed to showcase exemplary energy efficient technologies that have the potential to transform the current built environment.

Innovations were selected by a panel of industry experts based on their potential to make a positive impact on retrofitting the built environment. The zone will provide a lively and interactive forum to explore the new innovations that can be applied to the challenge of retrofit. Visitors to the zone will be invited to vote for their preferred innovation with the winner being announced at a ceremony at the end of the event.

The attraction, at the Leavesden studios near Watford where the Harry Potter films were made, will open in spring 2012. The three-hour tour will feature original sets, costumes, props and effects used in all eight movies. Among the exhibits will be the set for the Great Hall at Hogwarts School and headmaster Dumbledore’s office.

Warner Brothers Studios at Leavesden, which will house the tour, is set to be one of the largest studio production facilities in Europe when it opens next year. Josh Berger, the head of Warner Brothers UK, says it is an important studio for the company and will be bigger than their lot in Burbank, California….and Spiralite is an important part of this exciting development.

The project has several major challenges, including the removal of all the old steel ducting and what was left of the insulation, both of which were in a very poor state and potential hazardous. However, replacing this with lightweight Spiralite pre-insulated ducting has allowed the project to proceed at optimal speed, which is of special importance in a retail environment and particularly where the store remains open while the works are being done.
